I've been following and playing Minecraft obsessively since August of last year and the only reason that the vanilla updates feel "meshed" is because they are often very incremental. I don't get the obsession about official updates, by the way.
#AETHER 2 MOD MINECRAFT FORUMS FULL#
I'd much rather have a fully-functional extra world full of incredibly cool stuff to do than a hellish death pit that holds little risk/reward payoff. I don't even have it activated on my SMP server. Aside from fast-travel, there is absolutely no reason to go down there. To me, the Nether feels barren and useless. We must have completely different ideals as to how we want Minecraft to be.
I think all of the realms need bosses and 'dungeons' and rewards for braving them, but these three as they're implemented don't really fit the Aether theme. I do like the dungeons accessories, though, or at least the idea of them. The addition of an Aether night, bland tool tiers, and especially the fact that any of the mobs directly damage the player goes directly against what made the suggestion a unique realm in the first place. That said, the combination of stack-able spammable healing items, parachutes against fall damage, and easily accessible and incredibly powerful mounts basically negate whatever challenge the Aether would have otherwise. The idea of a new realm, just as dangerous as the Nether should be but in a completely different way, adds variety and challenge that Minecraft is desperately in need of at the moment. In fact the biggest reason I supported the suggestion (and mod) is because of how different it seemed. I absolutely do not want a continuation of the vanilla game. Was expecting mostly votes down, but to whoever is voting, talk to me! I thought I had some valid concerns, and if I'm wrong I'd much rather have a discussion than be down-voted for sharing an opinion :\ Can't help it though, guess I'll be waiting for the official Skyland update, and hoping that Mojang looks to the suggestion for inspiration.
#AETHER 2 MOD MINECRAFT FORUMS UPDATE#
I wish that the majority of the additions could have been added separately, or at least after the official adventure update to be balanced and supplemented with those changes. Directly-damaging mobs take away one of the biggest reasons the suggestion thread was so special, and controllable pig mounts and stack-able healing Abrosium both seem really overpowered. The loot from dungeons doesn't really fit the Aether theme, and many of the new weapons are brought down by the shallow combat system. Plot added with the valkyries and final boss seems sort of out of place and brings some bad dialogue with it. It seems like the modders had a bunch of ideas for their own "adventure-update" and put them all together without focusing on how they reflected the concept, or more importantly how they fit with the vanilla game. I guess I haven't been following this closely enough, but I'm a bit disappointed with how much this mod deviated from the original suggestion thread. (#spoiler) = neat!
